Creative Conservation has grown on the basic principle that everyone should be able to access professional development without jumping in a car, plane, boat, or whatever means of transportation that is available. This came from experience, as my family has always prefered to live in more rural communities.  In order to participate on state, regional or national organization boards or committees, I was required to jump into our car or buy a plane ticket.

Ten years ago it became apparent to me that not everyone has the ability to move about in such a manner.  I first developed regional networks in Colorado (our former home) which met quarterly and shared information.  Then satellite conferencing was becoming popular, as well as email.  Things were getting a little easier, yet not everyone felt comfortable with the new ways of communication and still required face to face meetings.

In 2000 we moved to Alaska where I received my Masters of Science in Vocational Education and focused on distance education. The technology now allows me to work from our rural home and deliver professional development opportunities to others in their homes. This means more time with family and friends for everyone, yet interacting with diverse audiences.

In the end, our mission has become more of a cause for equality.  As stated in the first line - everyone should be able to access professional development to enrich their personal lives - from where they live.
